Turkish Wines

Turkish wine is made in Turkey which has played a pivotal role in the early history of wine and may have been one of the earlies wine-producing regions. Turkey is the world's fourth leading producer of grapes and although it is estimates that it is home to between 600-1200 indigenious varieties, less than 60 of these are grown commercially.


At Turkuaz Restaurant, you will be able to find the most appreciated brands, namely;

- Okuzgozu (literally means "ox eye") is a grape variety coming from the Elazig Province, located on the Anatolian plateau at the north of the Taurus Mountains. Okuzgozu has rounded, dark colored grapes, hence the name, and is an ageable dry red wine. This premium wine is structured, elegant and longon the palate and it is well balanced with soft tannins, complex and rich flavours, intergrated with oak. The alcohol ratio is between 12-13% and is best served and 61-64 degrees Fahrenheit. It is a perfect match for cheese, casseroles, red meat, grills, and poultry.

- Bogazkere also originates from the Elazig Province, and has dark red rich grapes with dried fruit flavors and fig taste. It has a strong body, very enjoyable long finishing, dark red color and very rich aromas. It is good for aging up to 10 years and is recommended with steaks, spicy meat dishes, shish kebap, Adana kebap and cheese.

- Kalecik Karasi is called by the name of the area, the Kalecik district of Ankara (Turkey's Capital) and is grown near the Kizil River, famous for their unique taste and aroma. This special prestige wine has the color of a ruby stones, is rich, well balanced with a lasting aroma of red fruit, vanillin and cocoa. It perfectly matches with grilled lamb, lamb tandoori and cheese.

- Yakut is the most favorite red wine of Turkey and is produced from Okuzgozu, Bogazkere, Alicante and Carignan grapes carefully selected from the best vineyards of Eastern Anatolia and Aegean Region. Its color is lively and bright ruby red with an intense and complex aroma of red fruits and spices. Yakut has strong ripe tannins and a full body on the palate. It matches perfectly with Turkish pizza and meat plates.

- Cankaya is the widely known white wine of Turkey, produced from Emire, Narince and Sultana grapes. It has a bright pale yellow color and the aroma is pronounced with fresh white fruits with lively, long, mouth filling and well-balanced flavour. Cankaya matches perfectly with grilled fish, salmon wrapped with grape leaves, sea food salads, chicken dishes and cheese.
